AUDITIONS & EVALUATIONS
Auditions are usually before Thanksgiving with results being posted before leaving for the break.
Each year the number of people in the Varsity guard will be up to the director and what they are planning on doing with the show. Depending on how many color guards there are in the winter, the classes will be split up to reflect the number of ensembles. Varsity and Junior Varsity guards will be in 2 separate classes. Students in Junior Varsity will have a schedule change from the first semester to the second semester.

Students may be eligible for a Varsity band letter if successful at region band (Refer to Lettering Policy).

TMEA alignments are re-classified every 2 years (EVEN years). This affects which schools form each region within each area.
Placement auditions occur in April and determine student placement for the following semester (this includes current 8th graders/incoming 9th graders).
Percussion students audition again late fall for their Concert Season placement.
Other Band students will have their performance assessed in December mid-terms, and on occasion, some students placements may change.
Schedules will be altered accordingly, following any placement changes. Students can move up or down, depending on their audition.
All freshmen band students are eligible to audition, but must ultimately be approved by Directors before auditioning.
Those successful at audition will attend a clinic and concert.
All band members perform and help run this event which is a key opportunity to learn a piece of music to an in-depth level, and receive productive critique from an independent source. This is mandatory for all students with private lesson teachers and all other students are invited to participate. Music will be assigned to students by Directors and students must use an approved accompanist ($). Students are expected to practice and be well prepared.
