our band program

What does it mean to be a Cavalier Band Member?

Our band kids are continually improving musically, and our guard students relentlessly refine their performance skills. Our band and guard family is about so much more than that. Students are taught responsibility, time management, work ethic, leadership and how to be proud of their work. They learn about teamwork, collaboration, multi-tasking, and grow to understand the real meaning of discipline, resilience, sacrifice, endurance and commitment. Because of summer camp, students start the school year with an existing sense of ‘belonging’ – the camaraderie is second to none! All of these elements build self-confidence, and it is a heartwarming privilege to see each of our students flourish into young adults over their time in our program.

Cavalier Marching Band

The largest organization includes all students from the College Park High School Band Program. In addition to providing incredible support to the sports programs and school at CPHS, the marching band also fields an entertaining and competitive show that allows our students to truly showcase their talents and hard work.

The band competes as several competitions throughout the fall season and has earned recognition as one of the best marching bands in the area as well as the state, earning a trip to the UIL Texas State Marching Contest in 2022.

Cavalier Winterguard

The College Park High School Winterguard is a competitive organization that competes in the Winter and Spring. Made up of students from a variety of backgrounds, this group incorporates dance, auxiliary equipment and pageantry to produce an entertaining and competitive show.

The winterguard competes as several competitions throughout the area and is open to all students attending College Park High School.

Percussion Ensemble

Our percussion ensemble, led by Mr. Savala, includes all aspects of percussion. The drumline performs with the marching band at competitions and football games as well as individual drumline competitions. The percussionists also prepare for the Texas All-State auditions as well as Solo & Ensemble Contest. Percussion students are part of our concert bands as well, performing with each of our groups at all concerts and the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest.

Additionally, the percussion program presents an annual percussion ensemble concert in which students perform in multiple ensembles on a variety of instruments. This concert is truly one of the highlights of the year for our music program.

Concert Ensembles

All wind and percussion students are in one of our concert ensembles. These ensembles perform several concerts throughout the year and attend the UIL Concert and Sightreading contest. Students truly hone their skills and develop as musicians in these groups who work in large ensembles during the school day and practice in sectionals outside of the ay as well.

The College Park High School Bands consistently earn top ratings at all contests and competitions they attend and the Wind Ensemble has been very successful at the state level, being named a finalist for the Texas State Honor Band competition.
